7) Question of the Month about Software Training:Each month Scott Turton will answer a current or important question that we have received about computer and software training.
November 2007 Question of the Month:Where can I download a good Rootkit Removal tool that I can trust?
Answer:
A Rootkit is an especially bad program that is designed to hide trojans, viruses and other malware from your anti-virus and anti-spyware programs. Fortunately, there are now available several free software tools on the web that can detect rootkits in your system. I have researched these rootkit removal tools and here are the best ones I have found.
Panda Anti-Rootkit 1.08.00
This one is one of the best, it is not only good at detecting rootkits it also quite effective at removing them.
Icesword 1.22
IceSword is an effective tool against rootkits
RootkitRevealer v1.71
This tool from Microsoft lists Registry and file system API discrepancies that may indicate the presence of a user-mode or kernel-mode rootkit.
GMER
Detects and removes rootkits, and also monitors several system functions.
DarkSpy Anti-Rookit
A multiway-based detection tool for rootkit detection.
I hope this helps you.Scott Turton
